Temporary teachers are employed in NSW public schools on either a full-time basis, for a minimum of four weeks and a maximum of one school year, or on a part-time basis, for two or more school terms.
Temporary teachers receive most of the entitlements of permanent teachers, including annual salary, on a pro-rata basis.
The majority of teachers in NSW public schools commence their careers as casual or temporary teachers. To teach in a temporary position in NSW public schools, you will need to have approval to teach from the NSW Department of Education and current accreditation to teach from the New South Wales Education Standards Authority (NESA).
