Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to apply for a Teach and Learn Scholarship for Specialist Teaching Areas, you must:

  1. Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
  2. Have a current permanent teaching approval with the NSW Department of Education (if you are a temporary teacher).
  3. Be willing to enter into a Scholarship Agreement, a legally binding agreement that outlines the responsibilities of both the scholarship recipient and the department.
  4. Be willing to complete the required studies within the agreed time-frame (maximum of two years). If you are a permanent teacher who is appointed to a specialist teaching area following merit selection, your studies will need to be completed in line with the time-frame specified as part of your conditions of permanent employment.
  5. Be willing to remain in your current permanent full-time teaching position following completion of studies for a minimum period of three years (if you are a permanent teacher).
  6. Be committed to actively seeking employment within NSW public schools in the specialist teaching area of your scholarship (if you are a temporary teacher).
  7. Be one of the following:

For teacher librarian

  • recommended for a permanent teacher librarian position (minimum 0.6 FTE) following merit selection or permanently appointed to a teacher librarian position (minimum 0.6 FTE) and be currently undertaking, or planning to enrol in the next semester, in an approved postgraduate qualification in teacher librarianship.

OR

  • currently employed in a temporary teacher librarian position (minimum 0.6 FTE) and have been teaching in a teacher librarian position for at least 12 months, or currently engaged on a 12-month temporary contract, and be currently undertaking, or planning to enrol in the next semester, in an approved postgraduate qualification in teacher librarianship.

For careers adviser

  • recommended for a permanent careers adviser position (minimum 0.6 FTE) following merit selection or permanently appointed to a careers adviser position (minimum 0.6 FTE) and be currently undertaking, or planning to enrol in the next semester, in an approved postgraduate qualification in career education.

OR

  • currently employed in a temporary career adviser position (minimum 0.6 FTE) and have been teaching in a careers adviser position for at least 12 months, or currently engaged on a 12-month temporary contract, and be currently undertaking, or planning to enrol in the next semester, in an approved postgraduate qualification in career education.

For English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D)

  • recommended for a permanent EAL/D position (minimum 0.6 FTE) following merit selection or permanently appointed to an EAL/D teaching position (minimum 0.6 FTE) and be currently undertaking, or planning to enrol in the next semester, in an approved postgraduate qualification in EAL/D or TESOL.

OR

  • currently employed in a temporary EAL/D position (minimum 0.6 FTE) and have been teaching in a EAL/D position for at least 12 months, or currently engaged on a 12-month temporary contract, and be currently undertaking, or planning to enrol in the next semester, in an approved postgraduate qualification in EAL/D or TESOL.
