Teacher librarian

The steps you need to take to become a teacher librarian through STEP depend on your current qualifications. The maximum studies you will need are outlined below.

Teacher librarianship programs usually prepare graduates for years K to 12. Current staffing practices, however, restrict subject approval to the area of original mainstream teacher classification (e.g. a primary trained teacher is only entitled to the primary teacher librarian code and a secondary trained teacher is only entitled to the secondary teacher librarian code).

Approved teachers without librarian qualifications who are appointed to a teacher librarian position will need to complete an approved post-graduate program at masters degree level in teacher librarianship.
