Assessing Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Children and Adolescents
This workshop provides a research-based and practical approach to the psychological assessment of culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) children and adolescents. We will review the literature on the development of language and literacy abilities among English learners, and explore the impact of cultural differences on academic skill development.
The strengths and limitations of current instruments will be reviewed, and a framework for the effective psychological assessment of CALD children will be presented. Specific assessment methods will be demonstrated, including the conduct of interviews, the use of questionnaires and specialised tests, and the development of individualised case formulations. We will explore how to write accurate and useful reports of the results and implications of assessments of CALD children and adolescents.
