Subject Requirements
Mathematics
The requirements to become a qualified secondary mathematics teacher are outlined below. The studies outlined are indicative only. The actual program of study required will be dependent on each individual's qualifications.
- six subjects in pure or applied mathematics with at least four subjects at second year level and above (must include algebra and calculus.) Only one statistics subject may be counted provided it is a stand-alone subject; and
- one or two subjects (depending on focus) of mathematics method and curriculum studies appropriate for years 7 - 12; and
- one or two subjects of practicum in a secondary mathematics setting.

For future head teacher eligibility, the non-award study progression should reflect that of a major (subjects undertaken at first year, second year and third year progressively). The undergraduate subject content requirements for secondary teaching are aligned to those required by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
Physics
The requirements to become a qualified secondary science teacher are outlined below. The studies outlined are indicative only. The actual program of study required will be dependent on each individual's qualifications.
It is a requirement under the scholarship, that to be an approved science teacher you must be approved in two areas of science, one of which must be physics.
- six subjects of science with at least four subjects in one science and another two subjects in another science (4 subjects must be at second year level or above); and
- one or two subjects (depending on focus) of science method and curriculum studies appropriate for years 7-12; and
- one or two subjects of practicum in a secondary science setting (years 7-12).

- six subjects in engineering studies in areas such as civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronic engineering or relevant discipline including studies of the application of engineering principles and methods, management and problem solving in engineering contexts, responsibilities of engineers in society and design thinking and problem based thinking as used in the engineering profession, with a least four subjects at second year level and above; and
- one or two subjects (depending on focus) of TAS method and curriculum studies appropriate for years 7-12; and
- one or two subjects of practicum in a secondary TAS setting.

- one or two subjects of practicum in a secondary TAS setting.
